VENICE VR Expanded Launches Today
Venice VR at the 2020 Venice International Film Festival begins its 5th edition

Today marks the beginning of Venice VR Expanded, the 5th edition of Venice VR at the 77th Venice International Film Festival.
Programmed by co-curators Liz Rosenthal and Michel Reilhac the event runs from September 2nd– through the 12th and for the first time the program is available online via a “dedicated platform created by VRrOOm, with the support of HTC Viveport, Facebook’s Oculus, and VRChat, and at 16 satellite locations, spread between 3 different continents and 13 different countries.”
44 works are being exhibited, with 31 in competition, and the names attached to some read like a Who’s Who of Hollywood with Kate Winslet, Jennifer Hudson, Glenn Close and Daisy Ridley lending their voice talents to the world premiere of Baba Yaga, and Jon Favreau’s Gnomes and Goblins making a bow.
NoPro readers may be especially interested in the performance-centered projects Finding Pandora X, The Metamovie Presents: Alien Rescue, and La Comédie Virtuelle.
There are two badge types — a free pass and an accreditation that costs 100 Euros — which can be used to access the festival remotely and multiple satellite locations.
The key elements for remote viewing is the Exhibition Hall in VR Chat — which is accessible to all platforms where VR Chat is available, including the Oculus Quest, and the selection of content on Viveport which can be used by PC VR users.
