Featuring the artwork of Mikel Glass, Nancy Manocherian’s the cell is proud to announce Open Studio @ the cell on select dates from November 15th through November 30th. This new initiative will expose Glass’ explosive body of work to the public in tandem with interactive performance artists, theatremakers, and choreographers.

return, an interactive and relational piece created in response to the art of Mikel Glass, will be on display throughout Open Studio hours. The piece facilitates engagement with Glass’ work and investigates themes of home, collections, and childlike wonder and curiosity. This experimental work was created by Allie Marotta & Fernando Moya Delgado with performances by Charlie Akre, Allie Marotta, Jackie Meissner, Fernando Moya Delgado, Sydney Tucker.

On Thursday, November 21st, the cell will host a reception focusing on Rachel Rampleman’s video art complementing Glass’ installation. Rampleman showcases selections from her various bodies of work exploring the worlds of female bodybuilding, alt-drag, makeup tutorials, and child beauty pageants. Two floors of immersive installations will be a backdrop for the reception, with “Funtender” Rawb Lane hosting live interactive drawing.

On Friday, November 22nd and Saturday, November 23rd, the cell will feature dance company HOLDTIGHT’s latest work-in-progress It’s not what you think. Inspired by the art exhibition, the piece challenges the audience to question how they consume art and, in so doing, compels the viewer to reconsider their initial impressions. Viewers will be asked to discover what they not only see, but also what they feel lies beneath the surface.
