Meow Wolf's Phenomenomaly brings the power of immersive performance to the wonder of Meow Wolf's Denver & Las Vegas locations. See below.

2025 #22

I'm sure, like many of you, each of my days of late is filled with an intense amount of cognitive dissonance.

For instance I woke up this morning to the horrific news out of Minnesota, after a week of my city being basically laid siege to by the Federal government.

I talk at length about LA at the top of this week's podcast, so I won't repeat it here save for this:

If the work we love has an inherent good to it, it is in its power to remind us that we do have a voice. That our actions do mater. That we are not passive receptacles for entertainment product or placid consumers of onastic amusements delivered via generative AI. What’s the good of a form of art that lets you play at being the protagonist of the story if it isn’t training you up on how to take your role in the greater story that we’re all co-creating together?

It's Actually A Really Great Week For Immersive

Now here's the other side of the pendulum.

There were so many good things that popped up at EI this week that I had to do a full dozen listings.

This includes a special summer offering from Meow Wolf that is part of a larger trend of brining immersive theatre into themed entertainment spaces – something we talk about on this week's podcast, in part because that's exactly what is happening at Six Flags this year. It also includes a long anticipated new work from Third Rail Projects, who return to Denver with a follow up to the beloved Sweet & Lucky.

There's also an event in the mix this week that made me go "Who is doing WHAT?"

Can you guess which one that is?

SPOTLIGHT: PHENOMENOMALY

Meow Wolf's First Summer Immersive Event!

Inspired by the world of immersive theater and dance, Meow Wolf is introducing the spectacle of Phenomenomaly—a new interactive performance layer unfolding on a continuous loop inside Meow Wolf’s Las Vegas and Denver exhibitions. Running from June 21 through August 9, this immersive performance blends live theater, dance, puppetry, and interactive moments into the fabric of the multiverse.

After years of crafting wild, genre-bending festivals filled with interactive characters and unforgettable moments, Meow Wolf is bringing that same energy inside of their awe-inspiring exhibitions. Phenomenomaly is part immersive theater, part art party, and part glow worm migration (naturally).

Guests will encounter a kaleidoscope of experiences throughout the loop—otherworldly characters, unexpected rituals, moments of intimate magic, and a dizzying crescendo that spills into a luminescent parade of massive puppets, strange instruments, and shimmering creatures called Flickerwermz. The fate of these glowing beings, imagined to migrate across dimensions, depends on the collective play and participation of guests. Each performance runs for approximately 90 minutes on a repeating timed loop, layered throughout Meow Wolf’s surreal environments.

June 21 - Aug. 9

Las Vegas - included with admission to Omega Mart ($48)

Tribeca Immersive 2025: In Search of Us

In times of uncertainty and global change, creative expression becomes a vital avenue for exploration. "In Search of Us" celebrates the immersive field as a space to ask questions, uncover hidden truths, and create shared space through storytelling. Reflecting on Tribeca Immersive's 14-year legacy, this show continues the festival's commitment to the diversity of perspectives that shape who we are. There is no "us vs. them", there is only the search for us.

The selected immersive installations approach some of our era's most urgent questions with depth and nuance. They demonstrate the ongoing impact of artists using new technology to tell important stories. Some projects are calls to action, while others invite contemplation and forge interpersonal connections.

Here you'll find creative experiments across the senses, close looks at bias, and reflections on climate futures. There are opportunities to discover untold stories, as well as celebrations of culture across medium and genre. Through eleven dynamic installations, "In Search of Us" embraces immersion as a means to venture into the unknown together.
