2025 #38

Now that we're deep into Spooky Season, the mix of listings is getting downright kinetic: shows that might be genuinely scary, daring experimental theatre, large scale installations that have nothing to do with Halloween, and even the most chilling option of all: Christmas listings.

On the one hand this is great, on the other: we've got another large scale newsletter and I know how you all hate those. It's kind of funny: we've had over 40 listings come in to EI since the last newsletter and I'm only going to curate 17 of them, less than half, but that big number means hundreds of you won't open the newsletter. Sigh.

Knowing this, and feeling bad when people don't read this blasted thing, the proper option is to make this one public so that it does the most good.

I've always said that if I could I'd give all of this away for free. It's just that we don't have proper support for doing public service work in the arts. The States aren't Ireland after all. Sigh.

Next week, and the week after, there will be NO NEWSLETTER as I'm taking my traditional annual leave.

Getting away from all of the tools – save for what I need to teach the CalArts class – is something I've been dying to do for weeks now. I'm hoping that the time away gives me a beat to refresh my perspective. The good news is that there's still work that gets me revved up about immersive, which you can see in this week's Review Rundown.

Stay on top of things: Everything Immersive is going to be updated even while I'm gone. How? Elves. Not the Tolkien kind but the scary kind from myth. So be since to them or they'll radically change the look and feel of this place out of spite!

Are You Connected?

We're on Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, and Facebook.

GET LISTED!!!

As always: thanks to Kathryn and the team who set up the EI listings that show producers don't submit themselves, so that there is a newsletter to make. If YOU are an event producer who wants to see your work listed here submit a listing at Everything Immersive for the opportunity. Help us help you.

Just, please: make sure your listing explains why your event belongs.

SPOTLIGHT: WISCONSIN DELLS

Ghost Boat at Dells Boat Tours

From Moment Factory!

Welcome aboard for an exciting adventure — the grand re-opening of Cold Water Canyon! Closed since 1950 for reasons shrouded in mystery, the canyon is your feature destination on a very special after-dark Dells Boat Tours® excursion! Be among the first to discover what awaits you inside . . .

Cold Water Canyon was once the jewel of the Dells Boat Tours shorelandings — until it was abruptly abandoned in 1950. No reason was given — but there were rumors, of strange lights, weird sounds, and missing passengers. It was said the boat pilot on that last fateful trip into the canyon kept a record of what happened, but it was lost, along with everyone involved, in the long years since.

Today, those stories are regarded as nothing more than Dells legend, built up and exaggerated over time. And through the years, Cold Water Canyon has remained undisturbed, its scenic wonders hidden away — until now. Dells Boat Tours is reopening the shorelanding, and you’ll be among the very first to see it!

As night falls on the Wisconsin River, you’ll board a boat and head up-river, enjoying a special after-dark tour as you cruise along the towering sandstone cliffs. And then, the highlight of your adventure: Cold Water Canyon! You’ll dock, disembark and continue the excursion on-foot, following a path that winds through field, and forest, and deep into the canyon itself.

It’s sure to be a journey you’ll never forget . . .

Press Junket: 2 Bad 2 Bluff

In this interactive immersive experience, a press event is being held to promote a new movie called “2 Bad 2 Bluff”—the crime-fighting, karate-chopping sequel to “In the Bluff,” a lackluster rom-com about strip poker. You are playing the part of a journalist! Upon arrival, you’ll receive a press badge and you’ll have the opportunity to interview the cast and director of the upcoming film. Zero preparation required—just bring your curiosity and see what unfolds! (The movie might be fake, but the hijinks are very real.)

The Westminster Junior Historical Society invites you to their production of A Town Called Harris, a retelling of the moment in history when their town changed its name from Harris to Westminster. But when the power goes out, mysterious happenings threaten to derail their production and reveal the darker stories of the historic DeSpain Schoolhouse. Think Scooby Doo meets Agatha Christie meets our particular brand of immersive theater!

Interstellar Arc

One of NoPro's Most Anticipated for 2025!

Interstellar Arc is a never-before-seen, large-scale immersive experience to a distant exoplanet, blending mixed reality, interactive storytelling, and space exploration. Guests depart a 25th-century lunar spaceport located at Area15 - Zone 2: The Terminals, enter cryogenic sleep, and awaken 262 years later as their ship nears its destination. The experience is designed to make visitors feel like they’ve actually lived through an epic journey, not just watched it.

Interstellar Arc was created by Emmy-winning Felix & Paul Studios, whose Space Explorers: The ISS Experience series is the largest production ever filmed in space and earned them a Primetime Emmy Award.

Most VR experiences are stationary or confined to small movement areas. Interstellar Arc breaks the mold, combining a physical set larger than 4 basketball courts with free-roaming VR that accommodates up to hundreds of visitors per hour. Guests can walk freely through a virtual starship, interact with their group, and capture selfies or photos in VR. Advanced “spatial redirection” techniques make the environment feel infinitely large, creating an experience that’s immersive, social, and unlike anything you’ve seen before.

AURA Grace Cathedral

Created by Moment Factory and co-presented by Fever, Grace Cathedral is AURA’s third destination in the acclaimed series, and first edition to be presented in the United States. AURA reimagines the cathedral’s stained glass windows, soaring arches, and cultural symbols through orchestral music, vibrant projections, and luminous storytelling, sparking awe and connection across generations.

This U.S. premiere also marks a milestone in the AURA series: the launch of an interactive web app. By allowing participants to discover Grace Cathedral’s history and architecture, access real-time translation, and capture a personalized AI selfie that extends the journey beyond the evening, the app creatively amplifies visitor engagement.

Berkeley Shakespeare Company presents: The Tempest

One of the final works written by William Shakespeare before he retired from theatre in 1613, The Tempest has captured the imaginations of audiences and the zeitgeist of cultural and societal change ever since its (probable) debut in 1611.

The story of exiled Duke Prospero, his daughter Miranda, and the enchanted island where they live until the duke's magical machinations draw together his enemies and allies alike into a world of intrigue, romance, and miracles, The Tempest has been interpreted as its author's farewell to his art, an early critique of colonialism, a manifesto of radical forgiveness, and a proto-existential allegory for the acceptance of mortality. One of the Bard's most poetic and quotable shows, it takes us on a bittersweet spiritual journey while sparking important conversations about personal accountability, personal sovereignty, and the costs of power and knowledge. Quite tellingly, it has experienced a plethora of recent revivals in the Bay Area.

Berkeley Shakespeare Company brings their own unique twist under the direction of Stuart Bousel, who has adapted the script for an immersive theatre experience at HI Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel. With a new score by Bay Area singer/songwriter Katherine Park who also plays the role of Ariel, this performance offers the chance for audience members to spend the night on location after the show, and will include a chance to talk with the cast and production team, as well as other opportunities to connect and build community.

Shakespeare, site-specific; all ages, $45, Montara, Oct. 24 - Nov. 2

PHASMAGORICA at Le Petit Ermitage

At the turn of the century, séances were the most thrilling nights of people’s lives — not because they were terrifying, but because they were wondrous.

Spooky, social, esoteric, provocative… Phasmagorica revives that forgotten magic.

Enter the chamber — opulent and waiting.

No guide will accompany you. No medium will intervene.

Inside a hexagonal room shaped by sacred geometry and immersed in Dolby Atmos sound, choices are made, oracles drawn, shadows disturbed. Through sound and ritual, something stirs at the threshold between the seen and the unseen.

Phasmagorica is an experiential paranormal encounter — a séance reimagined as art. It is a living experiment, a fully contained and tactile installation designed to provoke contact.

And perhaps — if you listen closely — something will listen back.

No two encounters are the same. No actors. No performance. Only you — and whatever answers.

seance; 21+, $110, WeHo, $110

CONVENTION: LA Extension

CONVENTION tells the startling true story of what went down at the 1944 Democratic National Convention. It's shocking, immersive, and unhinged: over 50 actors (not a typo) outnumber the audience of 50 and plunge you into the heart of the action. So you're not just watching a play - you're living through the convention in real time.

This unique experience employs groundbreaking writing software that weaves layered dialogue across multiple spaces, creating a rich, harmonious rhythm.

What's at stake: in a moment of internal crisis, Democratic Party leaders made a fateful backroom decision that changed the course of history. They ousted incumbent VP Henry Wallace - a progressive with mass public support - and installed a little-known Senator named Harry S. Truman. FDR died months later, and with that switch, progressivism was shown the door. Sound familiar?

The sidelining of Wallace marked not just a personnel swap, but a philosophical one from which the Democratic Party has never fully recovered. The lingering question still hangs in the air: what would have happened if Wallace had been allowed to lead?

Now, the infamous estate has reopened to the public, drawing curious visitors eager to explore the so-called “house of the lost.” But the walls still whisper, shadows still stir, and some who enter never find their way back out.

Guests don’t just walk through this haunted house — they become part of its unraveling mystery. Blending immersive theatre with classic haunt scares, This Haunt plunges audiences into a world of psychological suspense and supernatural terror, where time has stopped, grief has festered, and the dead refuse to rest.
