Cages is a rock opera from Woolf and the Wondershow that pushes the technical aspects of theatre to the absolute limit, and then breaks right through that.

Not immersive in its aims, Cages nevertheless uses immersive techniques and tropes as part of an elaborate lounge that functions as a pre-show, and an intermission that lets the audience explore the world of Ahedonia for a little bit before heading back for Act II.

The show itself is a straight up love story with some Burtonesque stylings and projection mapping techniques that will make your eyes pop. Strong warning for those who are photosensitive.

CAGES is an experience that needs to be experienced, a first of its kind musical exclusively located in DTLA. The production is a musical for people who don’t typically attend musicals. Think Phantom of the Opera hijacked by Coachella at Paris Fashion Week.

Described as a new medium of storytelling, CAGES has the ability to touch upon all of the senses as it transports audiences through a carefully curated journey that alters your perception of reality with groundbreaking technology, an all-consuming sphere of sound and state of the art visuals. All music and lyrics for the show are composed, produced and arranged by creators CJ Baran and Benjamin Romans, who you can find on stage — performing live on show nights.

CAGES transports attendees into the dystopian world of Anhedonia — where emotions are forbidden and everyone’s hearts are locked in cages. When Woolf meets his muse, Madeline, he struggles to find the words that describe what he is suddenly feeling. With music as the universal language, Woolf sets out on a surreal journey to master his emotions in order to write a symphony powerful enough to make the world feel and set their hearts free.

Woolf and the Wondershow is a creative entertainment group, made up of its founders and creators CJ Baran and Benjamin Romans as well as its producers and business partners Marc Jordan (Founder, Rebel One LLC) and Ian McEvily (Partner, Rebel One LLC); a power team that brings decades of top tier work across music, entertainment and business development.

Located in the Arts District, CAGES is holding previews during the month of October with shows every Thursday and Saturday at 7PM. The full schedule along with tickets is available on the website, cagesdtla.com. CAGES is on Instagram at @cagesdtla
