Spooky Season may be over, but the work continues

No rest for the wicked!

Not while we’re deep into the planning for next year’s summit. That’s right: HERE 2020, our followup to the last two design summits, is taking shape behind the scenes and it’s got me aflutter.

All of this is part of the bigger plan, to take what we’ve built here and establish a solid foundation for an institute that serves the immersive and experiential arts. Which is why it was so amazing to have the community rally and take our Patreon up to 300 backers this week. (Of course, we’re back down to 299 — but let’s stay focused on the positive. Although we always need new backers.)

The work that’s out there? It’s only the herald of what’s to come.

Now, let’s see what’s on the near horizon.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK

Bernie Su is the multiple Emmy winning showrunner, co-creator, and executive producer of ‘Artificial,’ the first scripted narrative series on Twitch which also won Twitch its first Emmy.

Bernie’s been at this for a while, with ‘The Lizzie Bennet Diaries’ being one of the seminal works of the transmedia age.

As live immersive and interactive creators look to expanding their work across mediums — just check out our last podcast episode for an example — we thought it would be a good time to check in on how the parallel track of online interactive storytelling has matured in the last half-decade.

Plus: updates on our Patreon campaign and on the HERE Summit in 2020.

The Other Tales is a gem in the northern New Jersey escape room market. Although their experiences aren’t the most impressive builds in the region, they combine puzzles and story with memorable moments, and they provide a gentle touch that we highly recommend for players of any experience level.

Plight of the Margo felt epic. Part of this was the length; we played it back-to-back in 2 90-minute segments. However, it was so much more than the game clock. Experience escape room players should visit ConTRAPtions in Fort Collins, CO for this incredible adventure.

Trap Door Escape Room builds big, strange, narrative-driven escape games. They have a style all their own and I’m into it. Cure Z: Quarantine, the sequel to their retired second game Cure Z, was massive.

Sort of an ALONE meets THE ROPE with bits of humor throughout, it’s something that Los Angelenos would appreciate. It’s good to see some variety in the NYC immersive scene, especially around Halloween.

The New Noology Network alternate reality game has taken a few twists and turns in the last few weeks, and looks like it may be the continuation of an ARG from over a decade ago, in anticipation for an upcoming TV series.

Pizza Time Pizza is a lighthearted story about a pizza company that is very insistent it’s not a cult and bears no responsibility for a string of murders. The webseries-centric ARG wrapped up the narrative with Pizza Time Pizza 10 earlier this week.
