Four New York City Avante-Garde performance artists will each receive $1000 to present daily live interactive performances at four locations throughout Manhattan that will spark your imagination. “Chashama is returning to its roots. Live window installations like we had in the good old days,” says Anita Durst, founder of Chashama.

This residency is following the CDC’s guidelines for social distancing. The artist will interact with the audience through the window.

320 W 23rd Street, ROOMINATING. The Vanessa Long Dance Company performs rotating contemporary dance pieces aimed to provoke feelings, stimulate the senses, and activate the mind. Two dancers will interact with passersby in an immersive installation featuring 100 reused plastic bags while entangled in a human-sized spider web signifying how, even while social distancing, we are all connected.

21 Greenwich Avenue, PRIDE INSIIIDE. Stuart B Meyers will perform a solo pride party that explores pride as a process. Flowing, dynamic, and created in real-time. Filling the gallery walls with quick, hand-drawn portraits of historical LGBTQ+ leaders, chosen family, and passersby. Stuart will build dance rituals to his favorite queer pop hits of the last century. Reminding us that while we may be stuck inside, we have the power to celebrate life.

55 Avenue A, UNDER GLASS AND IN COLOR. Darrell Thorne specializes in creating otherworldly, highly detailed characters. He is a master of designing original headpieces and custom masks for the underground nightlife of NYC. The installation is a glimpse of creation as performance filled with energy, beauty, and creativity.

266 W 37th Street, DEVOTION. Sarah Nagle showcases the daily practice of simplicity and movement to create beauty in the epicenter of chaos. Each morning, the artist, Sarah Nagle, performs a ballet class followed by a quick meditation and lunch. Throughout the installation, she will create a room-size painting covering the walls and floors with a signature geometric grid filled with saturated, bold pigments revealing a multi-dimensional, kaleidoscopic world.
