When you visit somewhere new, do you start thinking about what kind of stories that place could tell? Are you curious about how digital technology can bring places to life? Are you a student or early-career artist with a passion for digital storytelling?

The Old Market and TOMTech, in partnership with Augmented Reality design studio Playlines, are seeking applicants for a 5-day Spatial Narrative Lab in August 2022.

The Spatial Narrative Lab 2022 will give talented writers and artists a chance to learn about the theory and practice of location-based digital narrative design from a veteran experience designer. Participants will get hands-on with cutting-edge tools, and get the chance to develop and implement their own location-based Augmented Reality stories within the narrative-rich surroundings of The Old Market, Hove.

Veteran VR/AR writer and designer Rob Morgan will lead the course and introduce attendees to innovative, practice-based design principles for spatial / AR narrative experiences. Over the 5-day course, attendees will conceive, develop ,and implement their own prototype location-based audio stories using The Old Market and its surroundings as a canvas.

COPENHAGEN

Call For Submissions — CPH:LAB
CPH:DOX (Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival)
Lab Dates: Sep. 2022 — March 2023
Deadline: June 16, 2022

LINK

CPH:LAB is open for submissions! We look forward to welcoming projects at the intersection of art, science and society, by artists keen to explore new forms of expression in factual storytelling, to the 2022–2023 edition starting in September 2022 and ending at CPH:DOX in March 2023.

Every year the lab supports the development of up to 9 projects and 20 participants. The lab welcomes established as well as emerging filmmakers, storytellers and creative technologists primarily from Europe although it is also open to a very limited number of participants from non-European countries.

This open call offers artists the opportunity to develop their project during a multi-months incubator that, together with a group of international mentors and tutors, will explore the potential of digital interactive technologies and advance new visions of what a documentary can be in a digital age. It offers a space for experimentation and collaboration in creative, cross-disciplinary partnerships across storytelling, the creative arts, science, technology and social entrepreneurship.‍ We encourage artists from different career stages and artistic backgrounds to submit their projects for this opportunity. Read more about previous selected projects here

The training programme runs as a combination of onsite and online workshops and mentoring sessions spanning from September 2022 to February 2023. Nine teams will develop a prototype of their interactive and immersive projects with support from internationally renowned mentors and their peers, to be presented at CPH:DOX in March 2023 to a specially-invited group of industry leaders.
